| In 2007, paper and paperboard production in Finland increased by slightly over 1%. Sawn wood production increased by slightly over 2%. Plywood production remained on the previous year’s level. Pulp production fell by about 2%.
Thanks to rising prices for sawn wood and pulp, the total
value of production in the branch increased to approximately
22.5 billion euros.
Demand for sawn wood, which was strong in the first half
of 2007, weakened sharply in the second half of the year.
During the fourth quarter, production was about 10% lower
than during the corresponding period in 2006. Thanks to
the strong showing in the first half, production for the year
as a whole increased by 2% to 12.4 million cubic metres.
The value of sawn wood production totalled about 2.8
billion euros in 2007, with the prices of products rising by
about one-fourth compared with the year before.
Growth in plywood production slowed towards the end of
the year and the total for 2007 was about the same as
the year before or 1.4 million cubic metres. The value of
production in 2007 was nearly 800 million euros.
