Hannover, Germany. A full nine months before opening day of the upcoming Ligna on 18 May 2009, 90 percent of the amount of display space occupied in 2007 has already been rented. In absolute figures, the number of exhibitors is 113 ahead of the corresponding number at the same point in time two years ago. “This is an extremely positive trend which underscores the role of Ligna as an international flagship fair,” commented Stephan Ph. Kühne, Member of the Managing Board at Hannover-based Deutsche Messe.
The keynote theme at Ligna is “Making more out of wood — Technology for resource efficiency”. Increasing cost pressures at companies as well as plain logic, ethics and a sensitivity to environmental sustainability issues demands greater efficiency in our use of resources than in the past. On the one hand this involves the security of the timber supply and resource conservation based on sustainable forestry methods. On the other it involves economical use of timber as well as more efficient production processes among manufacturers of wood processing machines to achieve savings of time and energy.
The main display categories at the tradeshow consist of forestry and forestry technology, sawmill technology, solid wood working, wood materials and veneer production, the furniture industry, surface finishing technology, applications-oriented special displays and the "Handwerk, Holz & mehr" (wood crafts) “fair-within-a-fair”.
