Norra Timber, the industry division of the northern Swedish forest owner association, invests in a Söderhamn Eriksson Catech 4000 TS-5 edger optimizer for installation in its sawmill in Sävar, one of Norra Timber’s two sawmills with a total annual production of some 400,000 cu.m. lumber.

Decisive for this purchase were the unmanned edging solution and the high capacity. Norra Timber believes in bandsaws and edger optimizers in the long run, primarily when it comes to yield but also in terms of productivity. The investment in a new Söderhamn Eriksson Catech opens up the possibility of increased capacity and availability both in the edging process and in the saw line. The new edging line will be delivered in mid-September 2015.

Norra Timber announced in February investments in Kåge and Sävar sawmills in Sweden. In 2014 the company invested SEK 40 million (EUR 4,2 million) in upgrading production capacity, and now plans to further to increase the rate of investment in 2015, up to SEK 84 million (EUR 8,8 million).

The largest investment in 2015 is going to be made in a new edger with increased cutting capacity for Sävar sawmill. The investment will amount to SEK 24 million (EUR 2,5 million).

The investments planned for Kåge sawmill cover loading machines, sorting equipment and Norra's own workshop for tool sharpening. Total investment amount will come up to SEK 60 million (EUR 6,3 million) in 2015.

Norra Timber is a Swedish forest company owned by 16,000 private forest owners, operating one million hectares of forest land in northern Sweden. The group has an annual turnover of nearly SEK 2 billion (EUR 210 million) and has approximately 350 employees. Norra Timber owns two sawmills, two planing mills and a pole factory. The company produces around 400,000 cubic meters of sawn timber per year, and 60,000 pine poles. Production is exported in a proportion of 66 percent.
