In October, Swedens' lumber and planed timber exports amounted to 1 million m³, down 12% compared with the reference period last year. Thus, export deficit from January to October increased to 7.3%. In exports to Great Britain, the Swedish main market, deficit increased to 17.2%. In October, decline in exports to Germany increased as well coming to -7.9%. The important Middle East market, Egypt, leveled out the deficit by the beginning of 2009 and now ranges at last year's level (+0.3%).
Average price for sawn timber and planed timber in October was at SEK 2,096 (+3.2%, € 234.2 / m³) compared to SEK 2.187 (+12.7%, € 239.5 / m³) in September and SEK 2.214.4 (+11.9% / € 242.4 / m³) in August. With SEK 2,007/m³ (€ 224.3/m³) Pine lumber ranges about 1% below the October prices of 2009. Spruce lumber prices persists in the black (+11% ) amounting to SEK 2,003/m³ (€ 223.8/m³).
