The demand for sapele logs and sawnwood remains firm and prices continue to climb. Over the past two weeks prices for sawn moabi and movingui have also shown signs of firming on the back of active buying for the French market.

Prices for sipo, the other favourite at the moment, remains firm but has probably reached its ceiling for the time being. The pace of shipments of the higher sawnwood grades depends mainly on demand in the European markets and producers are anticipating active purchases when buyers in the EU return to work after the holidays and begin to consider their autumn and winter imports.

Producer sentiment is more confident now than a year ago as the outlook for the economy and housing growth in the major markets such as Germany, UK and France has improved.
