Austria's Ministry of Agriculture recently published the 2020 logging report. In the past year, 16.79 million m³ without bark were felled in the Austrian forest.

The logging in the previous year was thus 2.11 million cubic meters or around 11% below the value in 2019.

The proportion of damaged wood was once again at a high level at 8.91 million cubic meters. The proportion of damaged wood was still 38 percent above the 10-year average. At the same time, only 88% of the growth is harvested.

The sharpest decline in wood use was recorded in the small forest (forest area below 200 ha). Here the impact was 9.25 million cubic meters, which corresponds to a decrease of around 17% compared to 2019. The share of small forests in the total felling was around 55%.

In the larger forest areas, which are mainly farmed (forest area from 200 ha, excluding Österreichische Bundesforste AG), the logging decreased by around 7% compared to the survey year 2019 to 5.78 million cubic meters. The share of the total felling was around 34%.

The Österreichische Bundesforste AG increased the felling by around 7% to 1.76 million cubic meters. The share of federal forests in total felling was around 11%.
