During the saw logs auction that took place in Ostbevern (Westfalen-Lippe, Germany) on Jan 31st, more than 3,300 m3 were offered (2,640 m3 - oak, 140 m3 - ash, 40 m3 - red oak, 110 m3 - maple, 190 m3 - cherry, 35 m3 – other hardwoods and 120 m3 - pine). The average price for all species rose by 10% to 191 €.

Average prices:
Oak: 203 €/m3 (2005: 178€/m3, 2004: 143€/m3)
Ash: 84 €/m3 (2005: 114€/m3, 2004: 64€/m3)
Maple: 136€/m3 (2005: 191€/m3, 2004: 119€/m3)
Cherry: 153€/m3 (2005: 197€/m3, 2004: 172€/m3)
Red oak: 84€/m3 (2005: 142€/m3, 2004: 80€/m3)
Pine: 65 €/m3 (not offered in 2005)

The forest administration in Warendorf deplored the decline in ash, maple and cherry prices, but it reported however that there was a lively demand for ash. This is caused on one hand by the high oak prices and on the other hand by the high demand from Polish furniture & parquet manufacturers. The prices for cherry decreased because the buyers were looking for better qualities.
