In 2017, Sweden exported 13.1 million m3 of sawn and planed softwood lumber. This is 1% more than in 2016. Almost 8 million cbm were exported to European countries, and 4 million m3 to Africa and East Asia.
Shipments to Europe are at the same level as in the previous year, but those to Africa and the Middle East have declined. Shipments to East Asia, America and Oceania have increased.

By country the United Kingdom leads the way as usual. With just under 2.6 million m3, exports to the UK represent about one-fifth of all Swedish softwood exports. The UK is followed by Egypt and Norway, both with over 1 million m3. Germany follows in fifth place after the Netherlands.
Swedish supplies to Great Britain and Germany, as well as to Denmark and Morocco have declined. All other countries in the top 10 show rising shipments, with the US leading the way (+65%) for the full year and +203% in December 2017.
