This year's edition of the World BioEconomy Forum will take place from October 18-20 in Belem, Brazil, as well as online. This time, the international platform for everything to do with the bioeconomy will address social, financial and political framework conditions and requirements as well as global industry leaders and innovative products in a hybrid form in four blocks over two days of lectures, and dares to take a look into the future of the sector.

After the welcome by the founder of the forum, Jukka Kantola, as well as various high-ranking representatives of the industry and local politics, the topic block “The Bioeconomy: People, Planet, Policies” follows, including an insight into the bioeconomy of Brazil and the Amazon region. Global strategies will also be discussed by a panel.

In the second thematic block "Global Leaders and Financial World" the audience gets an insight into the global economic situation and the panel explains sustainable financing methods. The role of leaders in the industry will also be outlined and a high-profile CEO panel will debate that.

On the second day of the event, the forum begins with the thematic block "Bioproducts around us" and provides viewers with information about the current status and trends on the market. The availability of raw materials and bio-based alternatives to established materials will then be discussed.

In the fourth thematic block, “Looking to the Future”, the speakers will give an outlook, including the tropical bioeconomy in a global context, as well as the bioeconomy and its relation to health care.

The third day of the event follows with various workshops and subsequent presentations.

In 2020, the then completely digital event was recorded as a great success by the organizer. The third event was broadcast live from Ruka in Finland to more than 400 participants from 50 countries and began with messages from the EU Commission and the Finnish government before the forum addressed some of the most important acute global challenges, including recovery from COVID- 19 and climate change. The forum discussed how the circular bioeconomy can be helpful in coping with both - for example through its sustainable raw material base and the enormous economic potential.

The third edition of the forum was divided into the same four thematic blocks that await the audience this year and the almost 30 speakers included Annica Bresky (President and CEO of Stora Enso), Jim Philp (Policy Analyst, OECD) and Courtney Lowrance (Managing Director, Sustainable Banking and Corporate Transitions, Citi). A year ago the increasing importance of the industry became apparent and the conclusions of the event included the increasing importance of sustainability in the financial sector and the foreseeable dynamism of the industry.
